Fatty liver disease: Finding path to prevention

Studying mice, School of Medicine researchers have found a way to prevent nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, the most common cause of chronic liver disease worldwide. Blocking a path that delivers dietary fructose to the liver prevented mice from developing the condition, investigators found.

Postdoctoral research associate Aubreya Adams visited Antarctica this winter to help with routine maintenance of seismic stations on the West Antarctic ice shelf. Margolis named Wolff Distinguished Professor of Ophthalmology

Todd P. Margolis, MD, PhD, head of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, has been named the new Alan A. and Edith L. Wolff Distinguished Professor of Ophthalmology. Margolis (right) is shown with Larry J. Shapiro, MD, executive vice chancellor for medical affairs and dean of the School of Medicine.

New opportunities for two Arts & Sciences faculty

Arts & Sciences faculty members Darren Dochuk, PhD, and Nancy Reynolds, PhD, will delve into new experiences this summer thanks to awards received this spring. Dochuk received a residency in China, and Reynolds won a New Directions Fellowship, which allows faculty to train outside their own areas of interest.

Earhart to direct Program in Physical Therapy

Gammon Earhart, PhD, professor of physical therapy, has been named director of the Program in Physical Therapy, effective July 1. Also a professor of neurobiology and neurology, Earhart joined the faculty in 2004.
